Dolcett Girls 05: Social Cliques

I hated high school. I hated all the pretty girls and boys. I was one of the shy ones, an outsider for any social group. I had some “somewhat friends” with a few girls and boys, but they weren't ones I went to their house or invited to my own. Instead, we said “hello” in the hallway and I'd fumble through the social niceties.

Actually, it wasn't until my thirties that I really felt comfortable with my social skills, or at least lack of them. One-on-one, I do pretty well, but groups… well they are my bane.

Related to that, I always found the mousy shy girls to the sexiest things ever. Plus, blue eyes…. Oh, there was this girl, one of the “pretty” ones, who had the clearest blue eyes I had ever seen. Even twenty-some years later, I still remember the one day she actually paid attention to me and I just stared into them.

Nothing ever happened, but I still remember that day in gym class.
