Back in 2005, I was involved with a number of conversations over at Dolcett Girls Forum because various authors were slowly disappearing from the community and their stories were fading with them. I came up with this great idea to create an archive site for those stories, just to keep them around.
It Started With Hope
Since I already maintained DGF's forum, I created a forum where everyone could create a “creators” board and post their own stories. I also planned on having interesting posts about the rest of the Internet, which would let my main site remain focused on myself.
I'll admit, I also hoped that the forum would become a thriving community of like-minded people who were just as perverted as myself.
It Never Made It
Now, eight years later, I have to admit, that never happened. The forum never got the critical mass needed for a “thriving community” and instead became just a quiet place for a few of my friends and not much else. It is an archive site, that part is true, but I lost a lot of the stories when my first forum was hacked and I switched applications to phpBB.
Maintaining a forum is work, even if no one is there. My life has changed in almost a decade and I'm finding that even the casual day-to-day checking dragged me a little bit. I've been talking about shutting down the forum, but there were a few things that held me back.
My New Plans
My plans for this year is to rework the forum. I consider the story archive to be important to the communities I've been involved with. I don't want to lose that. So, the plans are:
- Remove some of the conversation posts
- Remove all the image posts (because they put me most at risk)
- Clean up the story posts
- Convert the entire thing to a static site
- Create a blog (this thing) for my own thoughts
No clue how long this will take, but it is my goal for the year. And, I suspect it is going to take an entire year to finish (in my spare time).
