Tales of the Wild Kiss is a collection of erotic short stories about the crew of the Wild Kiss, a pirate ship that had more fornication than violence but there is plenty of both. Each story focuses on a different character on the ship and the wide variety of personalities are a testament to Mr. Richard's writing skills.
I love the richness of the characters. Mr. Richards writes submissives and dominate characters equally well along with a wry sense of humor. There is one character obsessed with admiral's asses and gives advice in terms of said asses. It is silly but also is a great counterpoint to the seductions and personalities throughout the story.
Each of the stories are tied together nicely. Main characters from one are references by others, though the stories are typically linear. The linear nature helps prevent revealing of the twists and revelations wonderfully while still letting the reader have hints about them long before they get a story of their own.
Now, the sex. It is lighthearted and playful, but also hot. The absurdity and intensity of the characters interacts wonderfully with their lovers and the situations they are forced into. I find the details of the sex, all the wet and slurping bits, to be fantastic. It never gets textbook in details but neither are the details glossed over. There is just the right mix of porn and humor.
I bought the physical version of the book. The font was a somewhat bland choice, readable but not outstanding. I found the typesetting to be non-standard. The paragraph spacing was a bit large given that they were also indented. The illustrations, on the other hand, were adorable and set the tone of the story.
I'd give this five stars. I'd also post the review in various places, but this book appears to be only found on Lulu.
