Over the last few months, I've been having a bit of trouble with Disqus. Mostly the advertising, but also the general realization that they aren't anyone's friend and even though they provide a free service, there is a lot of things I can't do. Not to mention some noise about having an adult site on them pushed me closer to moving.
Comments
So, I decided to bump the Curious Cabbit folks (e.g., me in a different pair of panties) and move my discussions over to their discussion site. I wasn't able to migrate the Disqus comments (yet) so everyone will have to create accounts if they want to comment again.
There are a couple of advantages of the new site. The biggest is that it will let me merge my mailing list with the discussions. I never really liked using Google, but it was the best choice. Discourse allows you, my darling readers, subscribe to comments via email or via the web. And comments will show up on the page.
It also lets new topics on the site, which means I could have conversations again. But, not having a lot of hope there. :)
Rodo
This will lead into the (probable) future of Rodo. I'm going to switch it to a static site for the stories, but put the comments and discussions over to the Curious Cabbit site. That way, we can still have comments for the stories but not have the bulk of the spam. I'm hoping it is a happy medium between what I had and what I need it to be.
If this doesn't work, I'll remove the comments from the Rodo site. I'd like it to work since there are quite a few people who still reference the site as a story archive.
